Original contemporary Irish landscape painting in Acrylic.
Inspired by the beautiful woodlands and trees of Ireland.
Part of the White Poplar Series of paintings #3
A friend of mine commissioned me to paint a beautiful tree that held special memories for her. Poignantly, the tree was diseased and due to be chopped down.
I spent a glorious afternoon quietly sketching in the shade of the tree listening to the rustling leaves and birdsong. I fell in love with this magnificent white poplar.
I could feel its strength and calm presence. I wanted to capture its strong branches, its broken twisted limbs, the feeling of sitting safe and enclosed in the dappled light space, the cascade of leaves whispering in the breeze, the rough texture of the bark, the memories it held of the children who climbed its boughs ….
So I did lots of different sketches and colour studies and created a number of paintings which highlighted different aspects of the tree.
My friend choose her favourite. The tree is gone now but I like to think this magnificent white poplar tree is immortalized forever in this series of paintings
